Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong visited the Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar. She arrived in Cox's Bazar on Wednesday (22 May) morning, traveling by plane from Dhaka. Following her arrival, she proceeded to the Kutupalong 8th Rohingya Camp in Ukhiya. During her visit to the refugee camp in Ukhiya in the afternoon, the minister spoke with journalists.
 
She toured the camp and observed the child education and relief distribution activities funded by the Australian government.
 
Earlier, she mentioned that Marise Payne had visited Myanmar to discuss the Rohingya issue with their government, stating, “The Australian government will play a role in the repatriation of the Rohingya.”
 
By speaking with the Rohingya in the camp, she learned about their needs in terms of food, healthcare, education, and housing. She indicated that upon returning to Australia, she would discuss with her government’s senior officials how to facilitate the repatriation of the Rohingya.
 
Penny Wong arrived in Bangladesh on a two-day visit with the aim of strengthening the relationship between the two countries.
 
Earlier, on Tuesday (May 21) at 11:30 AM, she was welcomed at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport by Khurshed Alam, Secretary of the Maritime Affairs Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and retired Rear Admiral.
 
Bangladesh High Commissioner to Australia, Allama Siddiki, was with her.
