Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan declared on Friday (May 31st), that Bangladesh will no longer permit the entry of Rohingyas or Myanmar nationals. This announcement was made during the Minister's visit to the Ukhiya Rohingya Camp in Cox's Bazar earlier Friday morning.

According to Asaduzzaman, the decision was prompted by reports of weapon use within the Rohingya camps, as well as the division of Rohingyas into various factions. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Armed Police Battalion (APBn), and Bangladesh Army personnel are collaborating to manage the situation.

Concerns over the presence of individuals associated with the ongoing conflict in Myanmar have also been raised. The Minister emphasized the risk of creating a breeding ground for international criminal activities within the camps.

Of particular concern is the involvement of some camp residents in drug trafficking, with drugs reportedly entering Bangladesh from Myanmar. Asaduzzaman affirmed the authorities' commitment to identifying and prosecuting those involved in such illegal activities.

The Home Minister told journalists, "I have discussed challenges and facilities with the relevant APBn personnel deployed for security work in the Rohingya camps.

I have informed them that Bangladesh has created a history in counter-terrorism through the APBn. The APBn is assisting Bangladesh in advancing by providing security in the Rohingya camps. The situation in the Rohingya camps is peaceful and under control because of the APBn's performance of their duties."

Regarding a question from journalists about Myanmar, the Home Minister also commented, "Bangladesh, along with international organizations, is actively working to repatriate the Rohingyas. Myanmar is an unstable country where conflicts are ongoing.

Despite various agreements or understandings signed with Myanmar at different times regarding the repatriation of Rohingyas, progress has not been made due to Myanmar's reasons. We hope that Myanmar will repatriate the Rohingyas soon." The Home Minister inspected the hilly area of Block E-7 of the Rohingya camp. From there, he went to Teknaf and held discussions with relevant BGB personnel.

Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammed Mizanur Rahman, APBn Chief Selim Mohammad Jahangir, Additional Inspector General Anwar Hossain, and Chattogram Range DIG Noor-E-Alam Mina were among the officials present during the announcement.
