Dhaka, 17 July- The capital city of Dhaka witnessed the commencement of the Tazia procession on Wednesday morning, marking the observance of holy Ashura. Thousands from the Shia community participated in the procession, which began at Hosseini Dalan in Old Dhaka shortly after 10 am.
The procession route includes notable landmarks such as Lalbagh, Azimpur, New Market, Neelkhet, and the Science Laboratory junction, culminating at the symbolic 'Karbala' near Dhanmondi Lake. Participants carried the symbolic coffin of Imam Hussain (R.A.) under a black velvet canopy, a poignant remembrance of the Battle of Karbala. Leading the procession were two symbolic horses representing Imam Hasan and Imam Hussain.
To ensure the safety and security of the participants and the smooth conduct of the procession, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have implemented tight security measures. The DMP has confirmed that all necessary preparations have been made for the observance of the day.
