Dec 11, (V7N) - A workshop on raising awareness about counterfeit currency highlighted the importance of educating the public to protect them from fraud and economic losses. The event, organized by Sonali Bank PLC's Gaibandha branch, took place at the Zila Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Gaibandha.
Speakers emphasized the challenges people face in identifying fake currency due to a lack of knowledge and strategic skills, often resulting in financial loss and potential legal complications. They underscored the necessity of acquiring skills to recognize counterfeit notes to avoid harassment and related issues.
The workshop was chaired by Sonali Bank’s Deputy General Manager Mohammad Ahsanul Kabir, with Additional District Magistrate Jahir Imam attending as the chief guest. Other notable attendees included Sadar UNO Mahmud Al-Hasan, Additional Police Superintendent Dhrubo Jyotirmoy Gop, and Sadarthana Officer-in-Charge Md. Shahinur Islam Talukder.
Resource persons from Bangladesh Bank's Bogura office, including Additional Director Md. Rezaul Karim and Deputy Director Md. Hasibur Hasan, shared insights. They, along with Sonali Bank's Assistant Manager Shafiqul Islam, explained key methods to detect counterfeit currency through a virtual PowerPoint presentation. A senior officer, Jyotirmoy Sarker, moderated the session.
Participants were engaged in an open discussion, where their questions about counterfeit notes were addressed. Bank officials, invited guests, and journalists were among the attendees, who left with enhanced knowledge about identifying fake currency and mitigating associated risks.
