BEIJING, Mar 6 (V7N) — A senior Chinese economic official has acknowledged growing "uncertainty" in the international environment and insufficient domestic demand, despite the government's confidence in achieving its ambitious five percent growth target for 2025.
Zheng Shanjie, Chairman of China's National Development and Reform Commission, stated on Thursday that while challenges exist, China possesses the "basic support and guarantee" to reach its goal.
"We have full confidence in this," Zheng said during a press conference held alongside the annual "Two Sessions" political meetings in Beijing.
However, he also pointed to the increasing "uncertainty in the external environment," a likely reference to escalating trade tensions with the United States and other geopolitical factors.
Domestically, Zheng cited "insufficient domestic demand, production and operation difficulties in some industries and some enterprises" as key challenges.
Despite these issues, he expressed optimism that "these difficulties and challenges are in the process of development and progress, and they can all be overcome and solved."
China's focus on boosting domestic demand as its primary economic driver comes as the country faces headwinds from a global trade environment marked by increasing protectionism.
