Dhaka, Nov 08 (V7N) — The newly constructed six-lane railway underpass in TT Para has officially opened to traffic, bringing an end to years of severe congestion and long delays at the area’s railway crossing.

The underpass was inaugurated on Saturday morning (November 8) by Retired Lieutenant General Abdul Hafiz, Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor on Defense and National Integration Development. Another Special Assistant, Sheikh Moin Uddin, was also present at the inauguration ceremony.

Of the six lanes, four have been designated for mechanical vehicles, allowing those up to five meters in height to pass without obstruction. The remaining two lanes are reserved for rickshaws, bicycles, and pedestrians, with sidewalks on both sides ensuring safe movement for foot traffic.

Residents expressed relief at the opening, noting that traffic often stalled for up to an hour at the previous Titipara railway crossing whenever a train passed. Many commuters had resorted to taking longer routes through Khilgaon or Golapbagh to avoid the congestion.

The new underpass connects Motijheel with Mugda, Manda, Manik Nagar, and Sabujbagh, significantly reducing travel time and easing pressure on nearby roads. Locals, while welcoming the development, urged authorities to ensure proper maintenance of the facility to preserve its long-term benefits.

Officials assured that the underpass would be regularly maintained, though they noted that full traffic benefits will only be realized once the Kamalapur Metro Rail station construction is completed.
