A fire broke out at the the two-storey abandoned rooms of S. Alam Vegetable Oil Limited factory located at Moijjartek in Karnaphuli at around 8:00 am on Friday.
The blaze was brought under control after two hours of intense firefighting efforts. Four units of the fire service were engaged in controlling the fire.
Mr. Abdur Rajjak, Assistant Director of Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defense, confirmed the successful containment of the fire.
The extent of damage, casualties, and financial losses due to the fire is yet to be determined by both the fire service and S. Alam authorities.
It's worth mentioning that a fire incident at S. Alam's sugar factory on March 4 resulted in the loss of one lakh metric tons of sugar. That fire took 67 hours to be brought under control.
