The "Unplastic Bangladesh 2024" campaign, a joint initiative by Green Lead and Sonali Bioplastics, has been officially launched, following the success of its 2023 edition. This campaign serves as a fervent call to action against plastic pollution and aims to raise awareness about environmental sustainability.
In a press release, the campaign is described as an opportunity for individuals to actively contribute to creating plastic-free communities and promoting a sustainable future.
The campaign kickoff event occurred at the Lakeshore Hotel in Gulshan, Dhaka, on Monday, drawing enthusiastic participation from youth representing diverse backgrounds.
Dr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury, a senior fellow at the National University of Singapore and former foreign advisor of Bangladesh, commended the campaign's objectives and praised the nation's youth, particularly students, for their support. He encouraged collaboration with global institutions to maximize impact.
Mariam Ispahani, the founder and CEO of Sonali Bioplastics, delivered a presentation emphasizing the dangers posed by plastics to communities and proposed mitigation strategies, urging immediate action.
Md Fahim Hossain, the founder and CEO of Green Lead, elaborated on the concept of "Unplasticing" and facilitated a workshop that sparked insightful discussions among participants.
The event also featured the "Unplastic Challenge," where youth participants shared ideas to promote behavioral changes regarding plastic usage among their peers.
Distinguished professionals from organizations such as the International Centre for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD), Water Aid, Volunteer for Environment, Bandarban University, Originative 360, Lal Shabuj Society, and others attended the event.
The "Unplastic Bangladesh Campaign" is scheduled to run from April 22 to June 5 (Environment Day), welcoming participation from individuals nationwide.
