Taipei, Dec 25 (V7N)- A powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Taiwan on Wednesday, with no immediate reports of casualties, according to Reuters. The tremor was primarily felt in the southeastern coastal areas of the island.
The Taiwan Meteorological Department reported that the earthquake's epicenter was located more than 11 kilometers below the surface. The tremor caused significant shaking of buildings and infrastructure in the capital Taipei, prompting concern among residents.
Taiwan has experienced strong earthquakes in the past. Notably, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake in 2016 killed over a hundred people and caused extensive damage. Authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged residents to remain alert.
