Dhaka, Oct 23 (V7N) – Former state minister for home affairs Lutfozzaman Babar has been acquitted by the High Court in a case concerning the acquisition of assets beyond his known sources of income. The ruling was delivered on Wednesday by a single-judge bench led by Justice Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah, following Babar's appeal against an eight-year prison sentence.

Babar was represented by Advocate Mohammad Shishir Manir, with assistance from lawyer Zayed bin Amjad during the proceedings. The case, involving illegal asset acquisition and information concealment, was initially filed on January 13, 2008, at Ramna police station by Mirza Zahidul Alam, an assistant director at the Anti-Corruption Commission's Chittagong-1 district office.

Previously, on October 12, 2021, Judge Mohammad Shahidul Islam of Dhaka's Special Judge Court-7 had sentenced Babar to eight years in prison. Babar appealed the decision to the High Court, which has now ruled in his favor.
