Dhaka, Nov 27 (V7N) — The Dhaka Metropolitan Court on Wednesday granted remand for several high-profile former ministers and lawmakers in connection with separate murder cases.

Former Law Minister Anisul Haque and former Food Minister Kamrul Islam were each remanded for three days. Additionally, the court ordered a two-day remand for former whip AS Feroze and a four-day remand for Solaiman Selim, the son of Haji Selim and a former member of parliament for Dhaka-7 constituency.

The decision followed a hearing earlier in the day after the accused were presented before the court. Investigating officers had initially sought 10-day remands for AS Feroze in the Jatrabari police station Imran murder case, Kamrul Islam and Solaiman Selim in the Lalbagh police station Khalid Saifullah murder case, Solaiman Selim in the Chawkbazar police station Rakib murder case, and Anisul Haque in the Jatrabari police station Jannatul Ferdous murder case.

During the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Farooq Farooqui opposed the remand applications and requested bail on behalf of the state. Defence lawyers for the accused also filed bail petitions seeking cancellation of the remand. However, after hearing all parties, the court granted remand as per its discretion.

In addition to the aforementioned individuals, several other notable figures have been arrested in connection with various murder cases across different police stations. These include former Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, former ministers Dipu Moni, Junaid Ahmed Palak, and Ameer Hossain Amu, as well as former MPs Salman F Rahman, Hasanul Haque Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, Sadek Khan, and ABM Fazle Karim. Other prominent detainees include Monirul Islam, Mashiur Rahman, and Shahriar Kabir.

Authorities have not yet disclosed detailed allegations against the arrested individuals, but investigations are reportedly ongoing. This series of arrests marks a significant development in high-profile cases across the capital.
