Dhaka, Dec 12 (V7N)- The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) of Bangladesh has directed relevant authorities to submit a report on the actions of law enforcement agencies in executing arrest warrants issued by the court. The report is to be submitted within seven days.

Court's Decision

The directive came following an oral application by the tribunal's Chief Prosecutor, Mohammad Tajul Islam, during a hearing on Thursday. The Chief Prosecutor expressed concerns regarding the alleged inaction of certain law enforcement officers in arresting individuals accused in genocide cases.

Concerns Raised

Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam pointed out that:

  • Several police officers were actively on duty before the arrest warrants were issued. However, they reportedly became untraceable once the warrants were issued.
  • There are suspicions that some officers might be aiding the accused in evading arrest.

He stated, "We requested the court to investigate whether law enforcement officials are genuinely implementing arrest warrants or facilitating the escape of the accused after receiving court orders."

Tribunal's Action

The ICT granted the application and ordered a detailed report on the measures taken by law enforcement to execute arrest warrants. The court's findings on this matter will determine the next course of action.

Future Proceedings

Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam indicated that additional issues related to this matter might be brought before the court after reviewing the submitted report.

This move underscores the tribunal's commitment to ensuring accountability and effective enforcement of its rulings in the ongoing genocide cases.
