Dhaka, Nov 20 (V7N) — The High Court has upheld the death sentences of suspended Teknaf Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das and suspended Sub-Inspector (SI) Liaqat Ali for the murder of Major (retd) Sinha Md. Rashed Khan. The court also confirmed life imprisonment for six other accused.

The murder took place on July 31, 2020, when Inspector Liaqat Ali, then of the Baharchhara Investigation Center, shot Major Sinha at the Shamlapur check post on the Cox's Bazar-Teknaf Marine Drive road. Sinha’s sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, filed the case as the plaintiff on August 5, 2020. A charge sheet submitted by the RAB on December 13, 2020, described the killing as a “planned murder” and named 15 accused.
On January 31, 2022, the Cox's Bazar District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail sentenced Pradeep and Liaqat to death and six others to life imprisonment, including three policemen and three police sources. Seven others were acquitted. The death reference was later sent to the High Court, leading to today’s confirmation of the sentences.
