Dhaka, Sep 18 (V7N)– A court in Dhaka has ordered a ban on the departure of former Fisheries and Livestock Minister S.M. Rezaul Karim, in connection with an ongoing corruption investigation. The ruling was issued on Thursday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Assamach Jaglul Hossain, following a petition submitted by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The ACC Director, Monayem Hossain, who is leading the investigation, requested the travel ban during a court hearing. Assistant Director of the ACC, Aminul Islam, confirmed the court's decision to the media.

According to the petition, the ACC is investigating allegations of abuse of power, irregularities, and corruption against S.M. Rezaul Karim, including the acquisition of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The investigation suggests that Karim and his family members have acquired significant movable and immovable assets in Nazirpur, Pirojpur, and Dhaka, worth crores of taka.

The ACC expressed concern that the former minister and his family members may attempt to leave the country, potentially taking crucial evidence and illicit funds with them. In light of these concerns, the court has imposed the travel ban to ensure a fair and comprehensive investigation.

The ACC's investigation continues as it gathers further evidence on the allegations against S.M. Rezaul Karim.
