Savar, Mar 24 (V7N) – In Ashulia, a police operation to demolish illegal structures built on public land and sidewalks turned violent when the encroachers attacked the police. No casualties have been reported, but three police vehicles were vandalized during the incident.
The altercation occurred on Sunday (March 23) afternoon when the authorities were carrying out an eviction operation along the footpath at the Bolivhadr Market area of the Nabinagar-Chandra Highway. The illegal structures had occupied both the roads and sidewalks in the area. When the police attempted to clear the area, the encroachers threw bricks and stones, damaging three police vehicles.
The eviction operation is part of an ongoing drive, especially ahead of the upcoming Eid festival, aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow. The operation was conducted in the presence of an executive magistrate to ensure the removal of illegal structures. After the attack, additional police forces were dispatched to restore order, and bulldozers were used to demolish the illegal buildings.
Shahinur Kabir, Additional Police Superintendent of Dhaka District (Savar Circle), confirmed that efforts are underway to arrest those involved in the attack. Legal actions are being processed in connection with the incident.
