Mongla, Nov 27 (V7N) – A poacher was apprehended with deer meat and hunting traps during a joint operation by the Coast Guard and police in Mongla. Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque, Coast Guard Media Officer (Dhaka), said that based on a tip-off, authorities conducted a midnight raid on Wednesday in the Kanainagar area of Mongla.

Officers recovered 32 kilograms of deer meat, two deer heads, eight deer legs, and nearly 2,000 meters of deer hunting traps. The suspect was detained on the spot and handed over to Mongla police station for further legal action.

Experts warn that illegal deer hunting poses serious threats to the environment. “Deer are crucial for maintaining ecological balance. Overhunting disrupts local ecosystems, affecting plant regeneration and the food chain,” said Dr. Mahbubur Rahman, a wildlife ecologist. He added that poaching also threatens biodiversity, which can have long-term consequences on forest health and the livelihoods of communities relying on natural resources.

Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haque stressed that the Coast Guard will continue targeted operations to prevent wildlife poaching and trafficking. Authorities urge local communities to cooperate in protecting wildlife to ensure sustainable ecosystems for future generations.
