A two-member Indian police team is set to arrive in Dhaka on Thursday to assist in the investigation of the murder of Jhenaidah-4 MP Anwarul Azim Anar. The visit aims to enhance cooperation between Indian and Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies regarding the case.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman confirmed that the Indian police officers would arrive by 2pm on Thursday. They are expected to interrogate the three suspects arrested in Bangladesh and meet and speak with MP Anar's family for further insight.
The Indian team will visit the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in the afternoon to coordinate the investigation efforts.
So far, two cases have been filed—one in Bangladesh and another in Kolkata—pertaining to the murder, with three suspects already in custody. However, the primary suspect behind the murder remains at large.
According to case details, MP Anar crossed the Darshana-Gede border into India on May 12 for medical treatment. He stayed at his friend Gopal Biswas's home in North 24 Parganas district, West Bengal. On the following day, he left to see a doctor and was expected to return in the evening but instead traveled to Delhi, sending a WhatsApp message to Biswas indicating he would call if necessary. Since then, Anar could not be contacted.
The government later confirmed Anar's death on Wednesday, citing Indian police sources.
