Sept 27, V7N- Prosecutor Gazi Monowar Hossain Tamim of the International Criminal Tribunal visited the family of Shaheed Mahfuz in Bagerhat's Morelganj on Friday around noon. His visit was part of a state initiative to provide comfort to the grieving family following the tragic events surrounding Mahfuz’s death during a student-led anti-discrimination protest on July 19, when the 16-year-old was shot.
During the visit, Mahfuz's family—his father Abdul Mannan, mother Begum Bibi, and sisters Shamima Nasreen and Rahima Begum Setu—embraced the prosecutor, expressing their sorrow and frustration. They recounted their grief, stating, “Sheikh Hasina’s forces did not even let us sit near Mahfuz’s body and cry,” and voiced their desire for justice, demanding, “We want Sheikh Hasina and her friends to be hanged.”
In response, Prosecutor Tamim revealed that a case has been filed against 76 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina, regarding Mahfuz’s killing, and that the case is currently under investigation. Also present during the visit were Morelganj police station's Officer-in-Charge Samsuddin, Jamaat leader Principal Abdul Alim, Master Moniruzzaman, and Principal Abdul Bari, among others. After meeting the family, the prosecutor paid his respects at Mahfuz's grave.
