Oct 14, V7N- Shahriar Alam is a four-time Member of Parliament (MP) for the Rajshahi-6 (Bagha-Charghat) constituency, having served two terms as State Minister for Foreign Affairs. Following Sheikh Hasina's flight to India on August 5, many of her associates also fled to India, with some still residing there under Modi's patronage, while others have moved to different countries. Among them is former State Minister Shahriar Alam.

 Residents of Bagha-Charghat report that Shahriar was at his home in Arani on the afternoon of August 4. He cut off communication with party workers after evening, leaving home early on August 5 and reaching the Gede border by road. He then entered India and has reportedly since traveled to Russia via Thailand.

Shahriar originally worked as a businessman and first contested in elections in 2008, declaring himself in debt at the time. However, over the subsequent 16 years, he experienced an extraordinary rise, accumulating substantial assets worth several thousand crores of Taka, both movable and immovable, along with his family. Observers have remarked that he must have come into possession of an "Aladdin's lamp," akin to a fairy tale.

Shahriar married Sylwia Parveen Leni, the daughter of a local Awami League leader from the neighboring Natore's Lalpur Upazila, for the second time. Using his influence, he had Leni's mother, Roksana Mortuza, elected as mayor in 2021. He built a house worth crores in Lalpur for Leni and gifted her a luxurious 3,600 square-foot flat in Gulshan, Dhaka. Additionally, he has purchased two flats in Gulshan under his name and one in his son's name.

Beyond the borders, he has established businesses in Russia, Brazil, and China, and has set up eight garment factories. He also founded 'Duronto' television under his Renaissance Group.
