Dhaka, Dec 01 (V7N) – The northern district of Panchagarh, located near the Himalayan region, has been gripped by a severe cold spell, with temperatures dropping to 10.5°C on Sunday morning. On Saturday, the temperature had dipped slightly lower to 10.4°C.

While the chilly weather has drawn tourists eager to enjoy the winter charm and views of snow-capped peaks, it has posed significant challenges for the district’s low-income residents.

Impact on Locals

For many, the cold weather has brought discomfort, yet daily activities continue as usual. Residents are seen harvesting vegetables, threshing rice, and managing other essential tasks despite the biting cold.

However, the drop in temperature has led to a surge in cold-related illnesses, such as fever, respiratory problems, and colds. Hospitals in the district are witnessing an increasing number of patients, particularly children and the elderly, who are more vulnerable to the harsh conditions.

Tourist Delight vs Local Struggles

The weather may be a delight for visitors seeking winter adventures and mountain views, but for locals, the struggle to adapt to the freezing temperatures is evident.

The contrasting experiences of tourists and residents underscore the dual impact of Panchagarh’s cold wave.
