Narail, Dec 10 (V7N)- A case has been filed against 295 individuals, including former National Assembly Whip Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and his father Golam Mortaza Swapan, for allegedly attacking the anti-discrimination student movement in Narail. The case was lodged at Lohagara Police Station on Monday night by Kazi Md. Yazur Rahman Babu, the chief organizer of the Narail district branch of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Accusations and Incident Details

The case accuses the defendants, including leaders and activists affiliated with the Awami League and the banned organization Chhatra League, of attacking students during a peaceful protest on August 4 at the C&B intersection in Lohagara upazila. The attackers allegedly used ramda (machetes), bamboo sticks, and rods to assault the protesters, injuring 15 to 20 individuals, including the plaintiff.

The report also mentions the use of an explosive cocktail to disperse the students, adding to the severity of the charges.

Police Action

Lohagara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md. Ashiqur Rahman confirmed the filing of the case and stated that two of the accused have already been arrested. “The investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken as per the law,” he said.

The alleged attack occurred during a student program opposing discrimination and promoting inclusivity. The incident has sparked significant attention due to the involvement of high-profile political figures, including Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, a former national cricket team captain and widely respected public figure.
