Rangamati, Dec 16 (V7N)- The people of Rangamati Hill District are celebrating the great Victory Day with profound respect and festivity, commemorating the pride and sacrifices of the Bengali nation.
Early Morning Tributes
The day began at 6:30 am with a 31-cannon salute at the altar of the Rangamati Central Shaheed Minar. Rangamati Deputy Commissioner Md. Habib Ullah initiated the tribute, which was followed by wreath-laying ceremonies by:
- Rangamati District Council Chairman Kajal Talukder
- Rangamati Police Superintendent Dr. Farhad Hossain
- Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board Vice Chairman Ripon Chakma
- Municipal Administrator Nasrin Sultana
- Representatives from local administration and Rangamati Press Club leaders
Political leaders, including members of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Jamaat-e-Islami, LDP, and other political and social organizations, also paid homage at the Shaheed Minar. They observed moments of silence and took oaths to uphold the values of independence.
Tributes were also offered at other memorials in the district, including the Shaheed M Abdul Ali and Shaheed Abdus Shukkur memorials. At sunrise, the national flag was hoisted at Rangamati Circuit House and the tomb of Bir Shreshtha Munshi Abdur Rouf in Burighat, Naniarchar Upazila.
Victory Fair and Programs
A three-day Victory Fair is being held at the gymnasium ground, featuring:
- Cultural and Sports Events: Discussions, prize distributions, and sports competitions, including women's sports events at Mari Stadium.
- Reception: Honoring freedom fighters and families of martyred heroes.
- Film Screenings: Liberation War-based films and documentaries shown at various public spots at 6 pm.
Community Celebrations
Special prayers and supplications are being held across mosques, temples, and churches. High-quality meals are served in hospitals, prisons, orphanages, children's homes, and shelters for the homeless. Entertainment venues and tourist attractions have opened their doors to children for free, spreading joy and patriotism throughout the district.
Rangamati's Victory Day celebrations reflect a deep respect for the sacrifices of the Liberation War and inspire hope for a prosperous, united Bangladesh.
