RAJSHAHI, (V7N) – Farmer Sukumar Pramanik from Chotokoy village, Bagmara is facing uncertainty over irrigating his six bighas of Boro land after a local influential installed a deep tube well, rendering his irrigation system ineffective. Despite multiple complaints and official investigations confirming his claim, no resolution has been reached, leaving his crops at risk.

Sukumar had been using shallow tube wells since 2000 with official approval to irrigate farmland. However, in 2023, Sunil Bandhu Chowdhury set up a deep tube well nearby, drastically reducing water availability for Sukumar’s fields. In response, investigations by local authorities—including the Upazila Agriculture Office, Barendra Multipurpose Development Authority, and Rural Electricity Department—confirmed the validity of Sukumar’s complaint.

With his usual irrigation system blocked, Sukumar has resorted to using a ribbon pipe from a pond 800 feet away. However, many believe this method won't be sustainable for large-scale cultivation, leaving his land at risk of going uncultivated. Meanwhile, Upazila authorities, who have acknowledged the issue, are yet to take action to resolve the crisis.
