Kaptai, Rangamati, 18 Apr (V7N) – Students at the Bangladesh Sweden Polytechnic Institute (BSPI) in Kaptai, Rangamati, staged a powerful mass procession on Friday, April 18th, wearing shrouds as a symbolic gesture in their ongoing movement for a six-point charter of demands affecting technical educational institutions nationwide.

"Ordinary students, wearing shrouds, held a mass procession at the Bangladesh Sweden Polytechnic Institute (BSPI) campus in Kaptai, Rangamati," reported Alamgir Manik from Rangamati.

The mass procession, which commenced at 3:30 PM local time, was led by Imtiaz Absar Chowdhury from BSPI's Civil Wood Department, along with Rishad Mahmud, Md. Masum, Habibur Rahman, and Mujahidur Rahman Nakib from the Electrical Department. The students marched around the campus before concluding with a brief rally at 4:00 PM.

"On Friday (April 18), at 3:30 pm, the mass procession led by Imtiaz Absar Chowdhury... Rishad Mahmud, Md. Masum, Habibur Rahman and Mujahidur Rahman Nakib... circumambulated the campus and ended with a short rally at 4 pm," the report detailed.

During the rally, Md. Mujahidur Rahman Nakib, a student from BSPI's Electrical Department, delivered a resolute message, stating, "We Swedes have been on the field from the beginning and will continue to fight until our demands are met. We will continue the movement until our last breath to achieve our demands." The use of the term "Swedes" refers to the students of the Bangladesh Sweden Polytechnic Institute.

"In a brief rally, BSPI's Electrical Department student Md. Mujahidur Rahman Nakib said, 'We Swedes have been on the field from the beginning and will continue to fight until our demands are met. We will continue the movement until our last breath to achieve our demands,'" Manik reported.

Nakib further explained that the act of wearing shrouds during the mass procession was a symbolic representation of the students' unwavering commitment and willingness to go to any lengths to achieve their six-point demands, which are part of a broader student movement across technical educational institutions in the country.

"Incidentally, BSPI's Electrical Department student Md. Mujahidur Rahman Nakib said that ordinary students at Kaptai BSPI held a mass procession with shrouds on their heads in order to fulfill the six-point demands of the student movement in technical educational institutions across the country," the report noted.

This dramatic demonstration follows earlier protests by BSPI general students, including torchlight processions, protest rallies, and road blockades held on the preceding Wednesday and Thursday, all advocating for the same set of demands. The escalation to a shroud-clad procession underscores the students' determination and the seriousness of their demands.

"Earlier, BSPI general students held torchlight processions, protest rallies, and road blockades last Wednesday and Thursday to demand the same," the correspondent added.

The students' continued and intensified protests highlight the pressing nature of their six-point demands and their resolve to see them addressed by the relevant authorities. The symbolic use of shrouds is a powerful visual statement of their commitment to the cause.
