Netrokona, June 09 (V7N) – A night of alleged violence, vandalism, and looting unfolded on Sunday (June 8) around 9 pm at the residence of Jubayer Hossain Beg, a Union Parishad (UP) member, in Mashua village of Kegati Union (Kaliara Gabragati), located in the district headquarters. In a twist, a counter-complaint of attack and beating has been filed against Jubayer member and several others by the accused party.
On Monday (June 9) afternoon, Josna Begum, mother of Jubayer Hossain Beg, the UP member for Ward No. 4 of Kegati Union, recounted the alleged events. She claimed that on Sunday night, a group of 50 to 60 individuals, led by Abdul Quddus and Islam Kha, residents of Mashua village, along with Mobarak Hossain, Russell Mia, Shahin, Sadek, and others, suddenly launched an attack on their home. During the assault, the attackers allegedly vandalized furniture inside the house and made off with jewelry and money. Josna Begum further asserted that the group also looted several hundred maunds of paddy and some equipment from another warehouse belonging to them.
However, Abdul Quddus and Islam Kha have presented a different narrative, alleging that Jubayer member and his associates attacked Abdul Quddus and Babul Mia. They claim to be currently receiving treatment at Netrokona Sadar Hospital for injuries sustained in the alleged attack. Champak Dam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Netrokona Model Police Station, confirmed that one person has already been arrested in connection with the complaint filed by Abdul Quddus's party.
When pressed for details, OC Champak Dam stated, "We have arrested one person after receiving a written complaint about the attack on Abdul Quddus. We have heard about the vandalism at Zubayer Member's house, but we have not received any written complaint in this regard yet." Investigations into both sets of allegations are expected to continue.
