Rangpur, Oct 12 (V7N) – Former caretaker government advisor and PPRC Executive Chairman Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman emphasized the crucial role of Begum Rokeya University in driving the overall development of northern Bangladesh during the 17th founding anniversary celebration of the university on Sunday (October 11).

Speaking at the event, Dr. Rahman said, “Now is the world of knowledge. Knowledge is one of the currencies of today’s world. Begum Rokeya University has the opportunity to play a major role as an institution. Today, we focus not on crises, but on moving forward with conviction.”

The celebration featured a colorful procession from the campus to Shaheed Abu Sayeed-Modern intersection and back, with participation from teachers, students, officials, and employees dressed in red. The program was inaugurated with the release of balloons and pigeons.

Dr. Rahman, who was involved in the university’s founding, addressed attendees at the foot of the Independence Monument. The event was chaired by VC Dr. Shawkat Ali, with speeches from founding VC Dr. M. Lutfar Rahman, and VCs of Kurigram University and Haji Danesh Science and Technology University, along with students and local entrepreneurs.

All speakers highlighted the university’s potential to fulfill the aspirations of Abu Sayeed, a symbol of eliminating discrimination.

Begum Rokeya University was initially launched on October 12, 2008, as Rangpur University by Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman during the caretaker government. It was later renamed to honor Begum Rokeya.
