Rangamati, Nov 15 (V7N) – The interim government has appointed Nazma Ashrafi as the new Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate of Rangamati, marking the first time a woman has been assigned to this position in the hill district. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification late Thursday night confirming her appointment.
According to the official circular issued on Friday (16 November 2025), a total of 14 senior officials have been transferred and appointed as Deputy Commissioners across various districts. Nazma Ashrafi’s appointment was listed as item number 14 in the notification. Prior to her new role, she served as a Deputy Secretary at the Economic Relations Division (ERD).
The appointment order, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Mohammad Abdul Karim, states that the decision has been made in the public interest and will take effect immediately.
Nazma Ashrafi replaces Mohammad Habib Ullah Maruf, who had been serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati since the July Revolution of 2024, when he was appointed by the previous administration.
Her appointment is seen as a significant step for women’s leadership in Bangladesh’s hill districts, where representation of female senior administrators has historically been minimal. The move is being widely welcomed as part of broader administrative reforms under the interim government.
