Madaripur, Nov 16 (V7N) — Awami League supporters blocked the Dhaka–Barisal highway in Gopalpur, Madaripur, early Sunday by cutting down several trees and burning tires. The blockade began around 6:30am, disrupting traffic for nearly three hours.

Police and fire service teams from Kalkini and Dasar rushed to the spot, cleared the tree stumps, and normalized traffic by 9:30am.

Local leaders Mir Golam Faruk, former general secretary of Kalkini Upazila Awami League, and Enayet Hossain Howlader, general secretary of Kalkini Municipality Awami League, reportedly led the protest. They addressed supporters from a makeshift stage on a van, declaring the program part of a movement against the Yunus government and protesting an alleged conspiracy to hang Sheikh Hasina.

Authorities said 10–12 large trees were felled and placed across the highway, causing severe suffering to passengers. No arrests have been made so far, but police say legal action is underway.
