Pabna, Dec 01 (V7N) – Government employees from various departments in Pabna district held a series of protests, including rallies, human chains, and assemblies on Sunday, demanding the implementation of the 9th National Pay Scale starting January 1.

The protest began in front of the Pabna Deputy Commissioner’s office in the morning, where employees gathered before marching through Zero Point and Abdul Hamid Road into the city. The procession continued along major city streets and culminated in a human chain in front of the Pabna Press Club. After the demonstration, the employees carried out another march along Abdul Hamid Road to the Judge Court premises and returned to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where a brief assembly concluded the program.

During the protests, speakers emphasized that government employees have not received any salary increase for the past ten years, despite the significant rise in the cost of living during this period. They highlighted that employees are forced to manage daily life on salaries ranging from Tk 8,000 to 10,000. Previous governments promised adjustments but failed to revise the pay structure. Protest leaders warned that if the 9th National Pay Scale is not implemented by December 30, they will announce larger-scale programs of action.

Speakers at the human chain included Mahiul Alam, President of the Pabna District Government Employees Coordination Council; Shaheen Alam, General Secretary; Abdus Sabur, Organizational Secretary; Abdul Majid, President of the Pabna District Fourth-Class Employees Association; and Fazlul Haque, President of the Pabna District Union Parishad Administrative Officers Association.

The demonstrators urged the government to take immediate steps to revise salaries and implement the long-overdue pay scale, calling it essential for ensuring financial stability and fair treatment of government employees across the district.
