Kishoreganj, Dec 28 (V7N) – Thirteen donation boxes at the historic Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj city were opened on Saturday, revealing 35 sacks of cash and other valuables. After nearly 13 hours of counting, officials recorded a total of Tk 11 crore 78 lakh 48 thousand 538. The collection also included foreign currency, including US dollars, as well as gold and silver jewelry. Numerous letters and notes from donors were also found. Additionally, by Friday, online donations had accumulated Tk 12 lakh 79 thousand 943.

Earlier, on August 30, 32 sacks of cash were collected from the mosque’s donation boxes. After counting, the total was Tk 12 crore 9 lakh 37 thousand 220. All collected funds have been deposited in the mosque’s account at Rupali Bank, according to the bank’s Assistant General Manager Mohammad Ali Hareshee.

The donation boxes were opened at 7:00 am under the supervision of the Pagla Mosque Management Committee President, District Commissioner Mohammad Aslam Molla, and Superintendent of Police Dr. S.M. Farhad Hossain. The cash and other valuables were placed in 35 sacks and moved to the mosque’s second floor for counting. A total of 460 participants, including teachers and students of the mosque complex’s madrasa, students from Al-Jamiatul Imdadia Madrasa, and Rupali Bank officials, were involved in the counting process, which took nearly 13 hours to complete.

Beyond monetary donations, devotees also contribute livestock, poultry, pigeons, milk, and vegetables. These items are auctioned every afternoon, with proceeds deposited in the mosque’s bank account. According to District Commissioner Mohammad Aslam Molla, the mosque has accumulated a total of 104 crore taka in its bank account so far. Foreign currency and jewelry have been deposited in the treasury and will be auctioned publicly in due course.

The collected funds are intended for the construction of a ten-story multipurpose mosque and Islamic complex, a project aimed at serving both religious and community needs in the city.
