Netrakona, Dec 30 (V7N) — The local administration in Mohanganj upazila of Netrakona has issued show-cause notices to a Union Parishad chairman and secretary following the discovery of fraudulent birth registrations issued to Rohingya nationals.

The Mohanganj upazila administration has taken action after uncovering the creation of birth registration certificates for 13 Rohingya nationals from a single Union Parishad in the area. In response to the incident, show-cause notices were served on the acting chairman of Gaglajur Union Parishad, Md Imran Mia, and its secretary, Rajib Mia, shortly after the irregularities came to light.

As part of the investigation, Mdud Ahmed Shawon, 35, the husband of Union Parishad entrepreneur Jharna Akhter, was arrested and later sent to jail in connection with the case.

During a field-level inquiry conducted on Monday, officials confirmed that administrative measures were initiated immediately after the incident was detected. Union Parishad Secretary Rajib Mia told the media that he was not involved in the fraud, claiming that Shawon had forged official seals and signatures to produce the birth registration documents without authorization.

Meanwhile, local residents of Gaglajur Union have demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of Acting Chairman Imran Mia in the forgery. They urged the authorities to examine all relevant records to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The upazila administration said the investigation is ongoing and further legal and administrative actions will be taken based on the findings, emphasizing that no one involved in the issuance of fraudulent documents would be spared.
