Jhalokathi, Dec 30 (V7N) — A total of 25 candidates have submitted their nomination papers in two parliamentary constituencies of Jhalokathi district in preparation for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.

Nomination papers were submitted on Monday to the District Administration as part of the electoral process for the 13th National Parliamentary Election. District Commissioner and Returning Officer Md Momin Uddin confirmed at around 7:30 pm that candidates from both constituencies had formally filed their nominations.

According to official sources, 15 candidates submitted nomination papers in Jhalokathi-1 constituency, comprising Rajapur and Kathalia upazilas, while 10 candidates filed nominations in Jhalokathi-2 constituency, which includes Jhalokathi Sadar and Nalchity upazilas.

In Jhalokathi-1, candidates who filed nomination papers include BNP-nominated Rafiqul Islam Jamal; Jamaat-e-Islami nominee Dr Fayzul Haque; Ibrahim Al Hadi from Islami Andolon Bangladesh; Dr Mahmuda Alam Mitu of NCP; Mostafizur Rahman Iran of the Labour Party; independent BNP-affiliated candidate Golam Azam Saikat; Kamruzzaman Khan of the Jatiya Party; Advocate Rubel Hawlader of Jatiya Party (JP); Sohrab Hossain of JSD; independent BNP-affiliated candidate Moin Alam Firozi; Jasim Uddin Talukdar of the Janata Party; Shahadat Hossain of Gono Odhikar Parishad; Mahibul Islam Mahim of Jatiya Party (JP); retired Colonel Mostafizur Rahman, contesting as an independent BNP-affiliated candidate; and retired Major Sabbir Ahmed, also running as an independent BNP-affiliated candidate.

In Jhalokathi-2, nomination papers were submitted by BNP-nominated former lawmaker Israt Sultana Elen Bhutto; Jamaat-e-Islami nominee Sheikh Neyamul Karim; Dr Sirajul Islam Siraji of Islami Andolon Bangladesh; Sheikh Jamal Hossain of AB Party; MA Quddus Khan of the Jatiya Party; Masud Parvez of JSD; Mahmudul Alam Sagar of Gono Odhikar Parishad; and independent candidates Md Nuruddin Sardar and Syed Razzak Ali.

Election officials said scrutiny of nomination papers and other subsequent electoral procedures will be carried out in accordance with the announced schedule as preparations continue to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election in the district.
