Cox’s Bazar, Sep 06 (V7N) - In Maheshkhali, a rare golden popa fish weighing about 30 kilograms has been caught by fishermen in the Hwanek area.
On the morning of Friday, September 6, fishermen aboard a trawler owned by Md. Anwar Membr from Hwanek captured the golden popa when they cast their net into the sea.
The trawler's captain, Mahbub Alam, and owner Anwar reported that due to the flooding, fishing activities had been suspended for a long period, leaving the crew idle. However, when they ventured out to sea with eight crew members and cast their net at a location called Jamiri Khal, they immediately caught the fish.
Fish traders and crew estimate the value of the 30-kilogram golden popa to be between Tk 5 & 6 lakh based on current market prices.
When asked about the fish's fate, trawler owner Anwar confirmed that it will be sold. The fish has been placed in a cold storage facility in Hwanek for this purpose.
