Rangamati, Feb 12, (V7N) – The section officer of Rangamati University of Science and Technology (RABIPRBI), former student leader Rakib Hossain, has been temporarily suspended by the university authorities. This action was taken due to his failure to submit the police verification documents after joining the university seven months ago and allegations of his involvement in weapon-related and criminal activities prior to his employment.
According to the university’s notification dated February 5, 2025, Rakib Hossain, who had joined the position of Section Officer (Establishment-1) on June 27, 2024, was suspended for failing to complete his police verification process. The university also referenced several reports published in the media, linking him to armed activities and criminal behavior. The notification stressed that such allegations were unacceptable for a university officer.
Professor Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman, Vice-Chancellor of RABIPRBI, confirmed the suspension and stated that an investigation committee had been formed to review the matter. The findings from this committee will determine the next steps.
The university also mentioned that Rakib had not completed the necessary police verification process after joining the university, despite instructions to submit the required forms. Additionally, sources indicated that Rakib was previously involved in student politics at Chittagong University, where he faced accusations of participating in criminal activities.
Rakib, who was previously affiliated with the Bangladesh Chhatra League, later joined the faction led by former mayor A. Z. M. Nasir Uddin. He was arrested in 2018 on charges related to weapon and robbery cases.
Efforts to contact Rakib for a statement were unsuccessful despite multiple calls and WhatsApp messages.
