Dhaka, May 8 (V7N) — The Ministry of Education has issued a directive mandating all government and non-government schools, colleges, and universities across the country to remain open on two upcoming Saturdays — May 17 and May 24.
The announcement came in an official order issued on Wednesday by the Secondary and Higher Education Division under the Ministry of Education.
According to the directive, the government has declared June 11 and 12 (Wednesday and Thursday) as public holidays in observance of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. To accommodate this, the Ministry of Public Administration has decided to keep all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices open on May 17 and May 24 — both of which are Saturdays and usually weekly holidays.
The Education Ministry's order reflects this broader government decision, requiring all educational institutions, as well as education-related offices, to operate on those two Saturdays.
Jaber Md. Sowaib, Senior Assistant Secretary of the Service Division, stated to the media that the directive was issued following the Ministry of Public Administration’s instructions to keep all offices open on May 17 and 24. In line with that, all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities — both public and private — are instructed to remain open on these dates.
The order also instructs relevant authorities to take necessary steps to ensure proper implementation of the directive.
