Dhaka, May 15 (V7N) — Students of Jagannath University staged an overnight sit-in as part of their ongoing protest in Dhaka’s Kakrail area, demanding justice and institutional reforms. The demonstration drew participation from members of several student organizations—Chhatra Dal, Chhatra Shibir, Chhatra Odhikar Parishad, the Progressive Student Front, and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement—alongside a large contingent of general students.

The protest began on Tuesday evening and continued through the night, with students occupying both the interior of the Kakrail Mosque and adjacent roadways. Witnesses described the atmosphere as intense yet peaceful, marked by slogan-chanting, protest songs, and collective calls to remain united in the face of adversity.

Demonstrators voiced strong frustration, vowing not to return to campus until their demands are met. “We’ve already taken beatings—we’re ready to take more. But we will not back down until our rights are secured,” several students said during the sit-in.

Shamsul Arefin, member secretary of the Jagannath University unit of Chhatra Dal, confirmed the unified presence of various student bodies. “All student groups are standing in solidarity with the general student population. Inside the mosque and on the streets, students are holding their ground—singing revolutionary songs and keeping morale high. We took to the streets, and this is where our demands will be resolved,” he stated.

The protest highlights deepening unrest on the university campus, where students have raised concerns over administrative injustice, political interference, and inadequate campus facilities. With no formal response yet from university authorities, the movement shows no signs of slowing down and continues to gather momentum.
