Rap mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs will not face charges for the 2016 assault of his former girlfriend, Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura, as the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office cites the statute of limitations. The incident, which recently came to light with the release of security camera footage, shows Combs assaulting Ventura inside the InterContinental Hotel in Century City on March 5, 2016.

The disturbing footage, obtained by CNN, depicts Combs, wearing only a towel and socks, throwing Ventura to the ground, kicking her repeatedly, and dragging her away after grabbing her belongings. Ventura's civil complaint filed last year alleges that Combs paid the hotel $50,000 for the security footage.

Despite the video's troubling nature, the DA’s Office stated that it cannot prosecute the case due to the time elapsed since the incident. “We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles,” the DA’s Office said. “We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch. If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately, we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.”

The DA’s Office encourages anyone with evidence or witnesses to crimes to report them to law enforcement.

In a separate development, federal agents raided homes associated with Combs in Los Angeles and Miami in March 2024. Reports suggest the raids were conducted by the Department of Homeland Security's team investigating human trafficking crimes. These investigations reportedly relate to numerous allegations in civil lawsuits against Combs, including claims of sexual assault, rape, and human trafficking.

Combs’ lawyer, Aaron Dyer, criticized the raids as “a gross use of military-level force” and maintained that Combs is “innocent and will continue to fight” to clear his name.
