DHAKA, Apr 20 (V7N)- The Election Commission (EC) has extended the deadline for new political parties to register until June 22, 2025, a necessary step for participation in the upcoming 13th general elections. The announcement was made on April 20, 2025.
"Until Thursday seven parties applied for registration and 20 others sought for an extended deadline. Under this circumstances the time for securing registration has been extended until June 22," said EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
He clarified that parties seeking registration must submit their applications within the extended deadline and fulfill all legal requirements and procedures.
The EC's decision follows a meeting between the newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP) and Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin earlier that day. Officials reported that the NCP presented a set of demands and requested an extension for the registration deadline.
Previously, the deadline for registration applications was set for April 20th.
The EC also listed the seven new parties that have already applied for registration: Bangladesh Conservative Party (BCP), Janata Congress Party, Bangladesh Probashi Kalyanmoy Party, Bangladesh Justice Party (BJP), Bangladesh Trinamool Janata Party, Bangladesh Mukti Oikya Dal, Bangladesh Janashakti Party, Bangladesh Jatiya Bhumihin Party (BMLP), Bangladesh Republic Party and Bangladesh Jana Jote Party (BJP).
