DHAKA, Apr 25 (V7N) - Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin stated on April 24, 2025, that the Election Commission (EC) will implement electoral reforms within its purview, while politically sensitive reforms requiring consensus will be addressed by the National Consensus Commission.

"Some reforms require political consensus and are beyond the EC's authority. Such matters will be handled by the National Consensus Commission," he told journalists following a meeting with newly appointed Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Susan Ryle, at Nirbachan Bhaban in Agargaon, Dhaka.

The meeting focused on preparations for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election, the progress of electoral reforms, and potential Australian support.

The CEC briefed the Australian envoy on ongoing reforms, including voter list updates, parliamentary constituency delimitation, and amendments to the electoral code of conduct.

"They inquired about our preparations for the next parliamentary election. We informed them about the ongoing reforms. They assured us of all possible support if we seek assistance," Nasir said.

He added, "We have completed the voter list. We also briefed them on the initiative to redraw boundaries of the parliamentary constituencies."

The CEC also mentioned the extension of the political party registration deadline and the ongoing amendments to the electoral code of conduct, informing the Australian High Commissioner about all necessary election-related steps.

Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle described the discussion as "highly productive" and reaffirmed Australia's commitment to supporting a free, fair, and transparent election in Bangladesh.

"Bangladesh is moving towards open and credible elections, and Australia stands ready to assist wherever possible," she said.
