Pabna, Nov 07 (V7N) – A fire broke out at the under-construction Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna on Thursday (November 6) around 12:30 p.m. The blaze originated in a large pile of timber stored behind the project area near the Padma River.

According to sources, five units of the Rooppur Green City Fire Service rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the alert. After nearly 40 minutes of effort, the fire was brought completely under control. Fortunately, no casualties or major damage were reported.

Senior Station Master of Rooppur Green City Fire Service, Abul Hashem, confirmed the incident. He stated that workers at the site noticed flames suddenly rising from the wooden pile and promptly informed the fire service. Multiple fire units responded quickly and managed to contain the fire before it could spread further.

Authorities said the exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway to identify the source. The sudden blaze caused temporary panic among workers and nearby residents, but normal activities at the project resumed shortly afterward.

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Bangladesh’s first nuclear energy facility, is being constructed with the technical and financial assistance of Russia. The project, located on the banks of the Padma River, aims to generate 2,400 megawatts of electricity once fully operational.
