Dhaka, Nov 17 (V7N) - BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Abdus Salam has called for the withdrawal of cases against the party’s acting chairperson Tarique Rahman, drawing parallels with the resolution of Nobel Laureate Dr. Yunus’s case in a single day.

During a discussion organized by Jagrata Bangladesh at the National Press Club on Sunday, Salam questioned, “If Dr. Yunus’s case can be resolved swiftly, why not Tarique Rahman’s?” He emphasized Tarique’s role in resisting political dominance and building opposition against the government.

The event also addressed what the BNP describes as false cases against Begum Khaleda Zia, Tarique Rahman, and other leaders.

Salam criticized the government’s priorities, alleging negligence toward urgent issues such as the rising cost of living, dengue outbreaks, and severe traffic congestion. He condemned long-term projects, like constructing 250 stadiums, as misplaced priorities, stating, “The government should instead focus on reducing the prices of essentials like rice, lentils, oil, and water. Long queues at TCB trucks highlight the public's hardship, especially with Ramadan approaching.”

He also expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s response to the August 5 incidents, accusing it of failing to address the grievances of students and citizens who suffered injuries during protests.

Salam called for a fair election and a transition of power to elected politicians, urging the government to focus on resolving immediate crises rather than formulating distant plans for 2050.

The BNP continues to challenge the government’s policies, accusing it of mismanagement and neglect of pressing public needs.
