Dhaka, Dec 02 (V7N) – Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, the ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, has called on the government to release all remaining political prisoners, emphasizing the need to end divisions and foster national unity.

“I urge the current government to release those still imprisoned. Past autocratic rulers divided the nation with hatred and discord. We must move beyond this animosity and work together for unity,” Shafiqur said during a responsibility conference for party workers in Jhalakathi on Monday morning.

Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, he condemned an extremist group for attempting to destabilize the country through the murder of a lawyer in Chittagong court. “They wanted to turn Bangladesh into a blazing ruin, but the responsible Muslims of this nation did not fall for their schemes. We chose patience and worked to maintain peace,” he said.

He also envisioned a harmonious Bangladesh, stating, “Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists, and Christians will coexist peacefully. In the future, there will be no need for guards at places of worship. We aspire to build a Bangladesh where people are not humiliated in offices or courts, farmers receive fair prices, and laborers are paid just wages for their efforts. If Jamaat comes to power, people will not have to beg for their rights; they will be guaranteed with dignity.”

Paying tribute to liberation war hero Abu Sayed, Shafiqur said, “He was a symbol of our freedom struggle and demanded justice but was tragically shot three times. We salute his sacrifice. In our envisioned Bangladesh, everyone will freely practice their religion without fear of interference, and no religious place will require guards. Justice and equality will prevail.”
