Thakurgaon, Dec 23 (V7N) — BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called for a united effort to restore democracy and establish the power of the people through fair elections. Speaking at a public meeting at Shibganj Degree College ground on Monday, he reiterated the BNP's commitment to fight for the people's right to vote.

"We want to establish the power of the people through elections. If necessary, there will be another fight for the country. We must unite and take to the streets again like on August 5 to achieve the right to vote," Fakhrul said.

Fakhrul criticised the ruling Awami League government, accusing it of suppressing opposition voices. "For 15 years, BNP has faced cases, attacks, and torture. Yet, it is our sacrifices that have paved the way for the students to overthrow the fascist government," he remarked.

He accused Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of "spreading misinformation" by portraying recent movements as extremist uprisings, insisting instead that these were popular movements reflecting the people's aspirations.

Highlighting economic disparities, Fakhrul addressed the issue of syndicates that exploit farmers and consumers. "A middleman group manipulates profits, depriving farmers of fair prices. We aim to ensure farmers get their due and also propose increasing the minimum wage for garment workers," he said.

He praised Bangladesh as a model of communal harmony, contrasting it with India. "Nowhere in the world is there communal harmony like in Bangladesh. During Puja, Muslim boys join in the celebrations, and during Eid, Hindu neighbors share the festivities," Fakhrul stated.

Referring to BNP's reform initiatives, Fakhrul mentioned Khaleda Zia's Vision-2030 plan, which included balancing power between the President and Prime Minister, establishing a bicameral parliament, and forming a judicial commission. He also highlighted the 31-point agenda proposed by Tarique Rahman in 2022 as a roadmap for reform.

The rally was part of BNP's ongoing campaign for electoral reforms and democracy restoration. Fakhrul's speech was met with applause from the crowd, as he urged supporters to remain steadfast in their efforts to bring about change.
