Dhaka, Dec 29 (V7N) — Jharna Roy (70), wife of BNP National Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, passed away on Sunday at 4 pm while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital in the capital. Her death was confirmed by her daughter-in-law, Advocate Nipun Roy Chowdhury, who is also the General Secretary of Dhaka District BNP.

Jharna Roy had been battling multiple health issues for a long time, according to family sources. She leaves behind her husband, two daughters, a son, and numerous grandchildren.

BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman expressed deep sorrow over her demise in a press release issued by the party’s Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi. Other BNP leaders, including Khaleda Zia’s advisor Amanullah Aman, former state minister Nazimuddin Master, and Jubo Dal central committee vice-president Rezaul Kabir, also conveyed their condolences.

Family members and BNP leaders have requested prayers for the departed soul. Details about the funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
