Dhaka, Dec 31 (V7N) — Jahidul Islam, the outgoing secretary general of Chhatra Shibir, has been elected as the new president of the organization for 2025 through votes from members across the country, while Nurul Islam Saddam has been appointed as the secretary general.

The announcement came during its conference held on Tuesday at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital.

Former Shibir leader Ataur Rahman Sarkar said the central members' conference of Islami Chhatra Shibir began in the morning.

The event was inaugurated at 8:50am by the father of Ali Raihan, who was martyred during the July uprising, alongside several members of martyr families who were present on stage.

This year’s conference, the first in 13 years, was held publicly at Suhrawardy Udyan.

Over 7,000 oath-bound members from across the country, professional leaders, top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami and invited guests from various political parties attended the event.

The last members' conference of the organization was held on December 31, 2010, at the China-Bangladesh Friendship Conference Center.

At that time, Dr Muhammad Rezaul Karim served as the central president and Advocate Shishir Manir was the secretary general.

According to Chhatra Shibir, the organization began its journey on February 6, 1977, at the central mosque of Dhaka University.
