Sylhet, Jan 02 (V7N)— BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi criticized Jamaat-e-Islami, questioning the party's role in the Liberation War. Speaking at an award ceremony in Sylhet on Thursday morning, Rizvi pointedly asked, "What was your role in the Liberation War? In which sectors did you fight? You are the only patriots in Bangladesh?" He added that if Jamaat-e-Islami continued to create confusion, it would only draw ridicule from the public.
Rizvi went on to acknowledge the undeniable patriotism of Bangladesh's army, noting their pivotal role in the nation's independence and the 1924 mass uprising. However, he questioned the contributions of the Islamic political party during the Liberation War.
Addressing the recent student-public movement, Rizvi highlighted its connection to the broader democratic struggle over the past 15 years. He expressed hope that the perpetrators of the violence against students and the public during the movement would face trial within a year. Rizvi raised a critical point, asking whether the disappearances and murders, including those of Ilyas Ali and Chowdhury Alam, from the past 15 years would also be addressed.
He emphasized the role of the interim government, which, according to him, supports all political parties, and demanded that the government ensure justice for the victims of past movements, including the 24th movement, as well as the unresolved cases of disappearances and murders from the past decade.
