Dhaka, Jan 05 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to depart for London on Tuesday night for advanced medical treatment, according to BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The announcement came after a meeting with the BNP Standing Committee at her Gulshan residence on Sunday night.

Khaleda, 79, who has been battling liver cirrhosis and other health issues, will also travel to the United States for further treatment at Johns Hopkins University Hospital.

This trip marks her second overseas medical visit, following her 2017 treatment in London. It will also be her first reunion with her son Tarique Rahman in seven years.

The BNP leader’s journey is scheduled for January 7 at 10 PM via a Qatar Airways air ambulance. Her treatment abroad follows her full release from legal restrictions after the fall of the Awami League government.

A 15-member delegation, including family members, physicians, and staff, will accompany her. Khaleda is expected to stay abroad for at least two months to undergo a liver transplant and other medical procedures.
