Noakhali, Jan 13 (V7N) — BNP Central Organizing Secretary Mahbubur Rahman Shamim has criticised the prolonged electoral reforms in the country, calling for immediate elections. He made these remarks while addressing a public gathering at Hatiar AM High School grounds in Dwip Upazila of Noakhali on Monday afternoon.

“The delay in elections under the guise of reforms is unacceptable. The first reform must be to hold elections without delay,” Shamim stated.

He highlighted that the movement to topple Sheikh Hasina's government, which culminated on August 5, was a collective effort. “This movement is not the work of one individual but the result of groundwork laid by BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman over the past 17 years. The one-point movement, supported by anti-discrimination students, brought about the downfall of Sheikh Hasina's government,” he added.

The public gathering was chaired by Hatia Upazila BNP President AKM Fazlul Haque Khokon, with District BNP General Secretary Adv. Abdur Rahman serving as the main speaker.

Other notable speakers included former Upazila BNP President Kamal Uddin Chowdhury, former President Ala Uddin, former Convener Shawkat Hossain Sakhawat, former General Secretary Lisanul Alam Lenin, and former VP of Dweep Government College Amirul Haider Chowdhury Sajjad. Leaders of various BNP affiliate organizations also addressed the gathering.

The event showcased BNP’s commitment to pressing for timely elections and highlighted the party's ongoing organisational efforts in Noakhali.
