Dhaka, Jan 26 (V7N)— BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has called for prompt elections to restore democracy and ensure the people's ownership of the country. Speaking at a discussion meeting held at the National Press Club on Sunday afternoon, he warned against alternative paths that could undermine democratic principles.
"If we look for any other way than elections, doubts will arise, and democracy will be undermined. The people will not accept any second path outside of elections," said Amir Khasru, emphasizing the importance of electoral integrity.
Highlighting the sacrifices made by the people over the past 15 years, he stated, "The current government must act with impartiality. Any question about their neutrality would betray the blood sacrifices of the common people. Restoring people's ownership is imperative through fair and impartial elections."
He also cautioned against avoiding elections or delaying the process, saying, "Taking any route other than ensuring the people's voting rights would be a grave mistake. The people will reject such attempts. It is essential to move towards elections as soon as possible to uphold democracy."
The BNP leader's remarks come amid growing demands for transparent and credible elections to address political instability and restore public confidence in governance.
