Magura, Mar 08 (V7N) – BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has assured full medical and legal support for the third-grade student who was brutally tortured in Nanduali Mathpara, Magura.

Speaking to the child's mother on Saturday (March 8), Rahman directed Dhaka South Jubo Dal Member Secretary Rabiul Islam Nayan to oversee all responsibilities related to the child's treatment and family support.

Nayan later informed reporters that Tarique Rahman has taken full responsibility for the child’s medical treatment and family welfare. He emphasized that the family must not feel abandoned and assured that legal action will be taken against the perpetrators.

Meanwhile, Magura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ayub Ali confirmed that a case is yet to be filed, though the process is underway.

As of now, four people have been detained, including:

  • Hitu Sheikh (prime suspect, already sent to jail)
  • Sajeeb Sheikh (child’s sister’s husband)
  • The child’s mother-in-law and elder brother

Further investigations are ongoing, with additional suspects being questioned.

A four-member medical board has been formed at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to oversee the child’s treatment. According to DMCH Director Brigadier General Md. Asaduzzaman, the child’s condition is critical, with a Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) score of 4.

"She is still unconscious and struggling to breathe due to a throat injury sustained during the murder attempt. She also has a fever, and there is a risk of pneumonia," said Police Superintendent Mina Mahmuda.

The child remains on life support, as confirmed by her maternal uncle.

Authorities have urged the public not to spread false rumors about the child's condition and instead pray for her recovery.

The horrifying incident took place on Thursday (March 6), when the young girl was reportedly raped and tortured by her sister’s father-in-law in Magura district headquarters. Following the attack, she was initially taken to the district hospital, later transferred to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, and subsequently moved to DMCH for advanced care.

Authorities continue to monitor the case, ensuring justice and necessary medical attention for the victim.
